Thabane is new Maseru mayor

The councillor of Ha Abia MMC-12, ‘Mampho Thabane-Libate, has been elected as the new Maseru City Council (MCC) mayor at a council meeting held at the MCC Hall at Ha Thamae on Tuesday.

Thabane-Libate pipped her rival Tholang Sefojane to the post, registering 10 out of 19 council votes. She succeeds Morena Hlathe Majara, who held the reigns since 2019 after then mayor Mpho Moloi was ousted through a vote of no confidence.

The new mayor indicated that this time around she was ready to ready to serve, unlike last year when she declined the invitation to assume the office of mayor.

Majara said many mayors do not complete their terms, but he managed to complete his, and expressed hope that the new mayor will do the same.

“This is not an easy job, especially if there’s no respect among colleagues,” he said.

Libate is the councillor of Ha Abia MCC-12.
