Thousands queue up for police jobs

By Neo Kolane

Scores of young people thronged the Maseru Central Charge Office on Monday to submit applications to join the police force.

The aspiring cops could be seen lining up on Lerotholi Roads in a queue that stretched about 300m from the charge office to the traffic department.

Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli told theReporter that the Lesotho Mounted Police Service is looking to recruit only 250 youngsters nationwide in the end.

“The figure is informed by the capacity of the Police Training College, even though we had hoped to accommodate more. They will take a written test and undergo an oral interview. The registration process will end on Friday.”

One of the police hopefuls, Lebohang Sekese of Sehlabeng Sa Thuathe, told this publication that she seriously needs a job.

“I’d love to go to university. Seeing people graduate makes me want to university, but I can’t because my parents are unemployed and cannot afford to pay for me.”
