Man held for sexually assaulting minor

A 59-year old man of Tṧitsong in Quthing appeared before the Quthing magistrate court on Monday accused of raping a 10-year-old girl.

Police report that on October 4 2020, the accused asked the girl to come help him water his plants. That’s when he forced her into the house and raped her.

After raping the little girl, the accused gave her M10 and told her not to tell her parents about the rape. She however reported the incident to her parents who in turn reported it to the police, resulting in the suspect’s apprehension four days later.

Meanwhile, a 2020 government report on gender-based indicates that sexual violence cases against children and women increased between March and June, after the enforcement of the nationwide lockdown which saw schools closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
