All set for NUL’s 46th convocation ceremony

By Poloko Mokhele

The National University of Lesotho will on Saturday host the 46th convocation for the award of certificates, diplomas and conferment of degrees, virtually for the second time.

The ceremony will take place in two segments beginning with speeches by the chancellor, King Letsie III, Vice Chancellor Professor Isaac Olusola Fajana, chairman of the council and a representative of graduates.

“To make the more memorable to graduands, dean of faculties and director of Institute of Extra Mural Studies (IEMS) will read out names of all graduands and these will also be shared digitally,” said a statement released by the university.

Normally, only the names of postgraduate students are read out by the deans. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, graduands will be expected to collect their certificates after the graduation ceremony.

The university indicated that the past year had been a challenging experience in the education sector, “particularly the institutions of higher learning due to the covid-19 pandemic.” Even though NUL managed to lower traffic congestion in the recent years by splitting the ceremony into two parts over two weekends, the press statement stated that “the number of graduands is still high and might compromise the covid-19 restrictions.”

The graduation ceremony will be transmitted live on Lesotho Television and the university’ social media pages.
