LDF Bill withdrawn, as committee cites flaws

A parliamentary committee has resolved that the Lesotho Defence Force (Amendment) Bill, 2025 be withdrawn from the House as it has erroneous content.

The committee on prime minister’s ministries and departments, governance, foreign relations and information cluster made this resolution when presenting the report on the Bill on Friday, after scrutiny.

While presenting the report before the National Assembly, committee chairperson, Makotoko Moshe indicated that “the committee resolved it cannot proceed to discuss the Bill with erroneous contents.

“The committee therefore, recommends that the House allows the minister responsible to withdraw the Bill to allow the technical team which was working on the Bill to review and properly redraft clauses where necessary.”

The committee submitted its report with recommendations for adoption by the House.

This after the minister in the prime minister’s office, Limpho Tau told the National Assembly during the briefing of the Bill last week that there were errors in the proposed Bill.

The Bills seeks to extend the retirement age of army personnel from 45 to 62. It was presented by Tau for the first time in the National Assembly on March 31, 2025.
