WIPO to host IP rights seminar

The Ministry of Law and Justice will host a three-day seminar on the Madrid and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) from April 23 to 25 in Maseru, in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

According to the ministry’s public relations manager, ‘Malesaoana Mohale, the seminar aims to enhance awareness and understanding of the international trademark and patent systems among stakeholders in Lesotho.

Mohale noted that the conference will discuss an overview of the Madrid System, the legal and administrative aspects of IP protection and understanding of the PCT system.

The Madrid system for the international registration of marks and the PCT system for international patent applications facilitate the protection of trademarks and patents globally, she explained.

“Subsequently, the expected outcomes for the seminar are increased awareness and understanding of the Madrid and PCT systems among regional stakeholders, enhanced capacity of business and IP professionals in utilising international IP systems,” Mohale added.
