Golf event to raise funds for education

The second annual Prime Minister’s Education Charity Golf Day will take place at the Maseru Golf Club on March 27, followed by a fundraising and award‑giving dinner.

The initiative is part of government’s commitment to improving access to quality education, particularly for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

According to the organisers, the day is not only a sporting and social event, but more importantly, a platform to mobilise resources and partnerships in support of education.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday on behalf of Prime Minister Sam Matekane, the Minister of Education and Training, Professor Ntoi Rapapa said they are encouraged by the growing interest and goodwill shown by individuals and corporates, and development partners since the inaugural event.

Prof Rapapa said this second edition seeks to build on that momentum, strengthen partnerships, and broaden participation in this noble cause.

“We therefore, invite members of the private sector, organisations, and individuals of goodwill to participate and support this good initiative.

“Education remains the foundation of our nation’s development. Initiatives such as this demonstrate what can be achieved when government and society work together for the benefit of our children and the future of Lesotho,” he noted.

Last year’s inaugural event raised over M1 million to support children with disabilities and those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. This year’s edition is hosted by UNICEF, EconetTelecom Lesotho, and Vodacom Lesotho.
