Chinese Language Day to be celebrated

The embassy of People’s Republic of China, in collaboration with the National University of Lesotho Confucius Institute of Agriculture, Science and technology, and the Machabeng College Confucius class will hold a celebration of the United Nation’s Chinese language day this week.

The Chinese language is one of the six official languages used by the United Nations, and its day is normally celebrated globally on April 20 each year, a date chosen to honour Cangjie, a figure believed to have invented Chinese character.

Due to the Easter holiday, the Chinese language day will be celebrated this week.

The day is observed to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six working languages.
