Construction company lays off 1, 400 workers

About 1, 400 workers employed by construction company Kopano Ke Matla JV at Polihali and Katse sites have been laid off.

This follows notice of suspension of all work activities related to the Waterwastey Plants work by the engineer,MSKC, in a letter dated May 5, 2025.

Kopano Ke Matla JV told its staff that all employees directly impacted by this suspension would be notified.

“The layoff is indefinite and will remain in place until the engineer formally lifts the suspension.

“During this period, the principle of No Work, No pay Will apply,” the memo indicated. 

It further noted that the company’s HR Office will remain available to provide updates and support throughout the duration of the suspension.
