Lesotho’s digital progress faces challenges – Matekane

Prime Minister Sam Matekane says Lesotho’s digital progress faces significant challenges such as vandalism of network infrastructure, cybercrime threats, and digital exclusion for many households.
Matekane made these remarks on Friday during the closing ceremony of the Econet Expo 2025.
Matekane underscored the need for collective efforts to address these challenges and ensure that Lesotho’s digital growth is inclusive and sustainable.
He noted that by tackling vandalism, enhancing cybersecurity, and expanding digital access, the country can unlock its full potential and create opportunities for its citizens.
Matekane stated that the government is committed to overcome such obstacles, working together with private sector and guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“Let us look ahead with confidence. The fourth industrial revolution is not happening elsewhere, it is here and with the right partnerships, with the right polices and with collective will of our people, Lesotho cannot be a follower, but a leader in digital transformation journey,” Matekane added.
He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that digital revolution serves Basotho and that it brings Lesotho closer to a future where by prosperity, equality and innovation walk hand in hand.
