Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to groove. Cool Vibes in partnership with Café What? are bringing Stella’s Groove.
The event will take place tomorrow at Café What? in Maseru.
Gates open at 3:00pm till late.
The event will be held once every month, making it a regular feature on the local entertainment calendar.
The show is mainly for seasoned groovers looking for a day and night of dope music, fun, memorable and nostalgic moments.
In a recent interview with theReporter founder of Stella’s Groove, DJ and promoter Moeketsi Mphuthi known for his stage name ‘Karma,’ said the event demonstrates an urban lifestyle of a mature, stylish, hip and fashionable community, with a passion for going out dining and vibing.
“The idea was incepted not too long ago with a longing to birth a classic music and lifestyle concept that would enhance the urbanite’s lifestyle groove experiences.
“Those are the outgoing people, vibrant people who are passionate. Musically it would be outstandingly rich and of the highest quality possible.
“The sonic presentation would be meticulously selected from multiple genres bound to Groove Lounge, Nu-Jazz/Broken Beats, House Music, Afro Beat, Down Tempo, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul and Disco,” Karma said.
He noted that the event will be taking place every month with the rotation of different DJ’s and artists and performers, both locally and internationally.
The ultimate goal of the event is for Stella’s Groove to join the ranks of other international concepts and make people from all over the world feel they really want to come to Lesotho, including artists booked from other countries.
“What is unique about this event is the type of music we will be playing on a regular monthly basis. We are not mainly focused on mainstream music which is being everywhere,” Karma indicated.
He added that much of the music they will be playing will be alternative including house music but not the commercial stuff.
“This is a platform where we get to experiment, experience and present this type of music. Café What? is an ideal venue for such music because its doors are open to exploring and catering for a particular market which needs something different,” Karma observed.
Local DJs who are on the timeline include Sir Sechaba, Karma, Hlomla, Ras and Lady B as well as Nkoanyane Pitso.
Besides that, there are international artists and performers such as 2lani The Warrior from South Africa who will be performing in March. Other DJs come from Botswana and Swaziland.
Among the challenges Karma has encountered while organising this event was lack of collaboration in one of the main show, due to some divisions among artists DJs and musicians.
“There is always that egocentric approach towards artists, DJs and musician, since there are those who feel like they are bigger than others.
“Others want to be booked all the time, while others require money from the onset yet we are only getting started with this concept. It is not like there is money already. We are building something and for money to come we need to be productive,” he stated.
To keep the Stella’s Groove consistent, Karma said they need to be creative, outgoing and robust in how they engage with their followers and most importantly, how they communicate.
Besides that, they basically need to see how they come up with different content which is constant because that is what keeps people’s attention, not to mention coming up with enticing activities.
At the moment there is no pre-selling of tickets since the aim is to introduce the concept for people to see what they are doing.
Therefore, from this first event and the upcoming one in February the entrance is open door, until March when they will be preselling the tickets.
