Sea to the table delights await

Delicacy Treats is a new seafood and sushi establishment founded two years ago. This place unveils the ocean’s culinary secrets you won’t forget!

Initially operating as a delivery service, the restaurant has expanded to a dine-in located at Maseru East. It offers a relaxed atmosphere where customers can savour exquisite cuisine.

The restaurant’s concept originated from the owner’s passion for exceptional cuisine, a fondness for high-quality seafood, and a perceived gap in the market for seafood-focused establishments.

In an interview with theReporter this week, the founder of Delicacy Treats, Rethabile Pule, said her lifelong passion for culinary art was cultivated from childhood. It has always been a professional aspiration.

However, formal training was precluded by her father’s wish for her to become a chartered accountant.

“I fulfilled his ambition but I’m now pursuing my culinary passion with complete dedication and success. It is remarkable how passion provides purpose, fulfilment, and contentment. I am truly devoted to my work and my talent.

“Our team comprises myself, a Chef, Sous Chef, general caretaker, and two waitresses. We procure our products from reputable local supermarkets,” Pule said.

She noted that their target demographic comprises discerning seafood enthusiasts, both experienced and those yet to discover an exceptional culinary experience they offer.

“As our slogan states, ‘It’s an experience’, we aim to introduce customers to novel and unforgettable flavours, fostering lasting brand loyalty.

“It’s remarkable how enthusiastic Basotho are about seafood and sushi, we see a daily influx of new enthusiasts eager to try them,” she expressed.

Speaking of the challenges encountered since the restaurant was established, cited that several local supermarkets offering seafood products have limited supplies, occasionally hindering their ability to fulfil menu requirements and large orders.

Additionally, their current strategy involves maximizing inventory when products are available.

In spite of all the challenges, Pule has a broader vision about her business which will also help change the narrative about the sea food.

“Our objective is to cultivate a brand synonymous with superior seafood dining, ensuring Delicacy Treats becomes the recognised destination for an exceptional culinary experience.

“We also project expansion into one other district within those 10 years, targeting an area with established customer base and high seafood consumption.  Our market research has already indicated strong pre-orders in two specific districts,” she added.
