‘Nyane Letsie suspended

The suspension of the director general of health services Dr ‘Nyane Letsie has been greeted with mixed feelings among stakeholders in the health sector.

Dr Letsie was suspended with immediate effect by acting health principal secretary Lesimole Moletsane on Tuesday, over ‘allegations of habitual and deliberate under-performance’.

While some have hailed the move as a step in the right direction because Dr Letsie had become ‘a serious stumbling block to the progress of the ministry”, others are questioning its timing as it happens amidst efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Moletsane stated in a letter dated July 28 2020 that the move is aimed at allowing investigations against Dr Letsie to be carried out without her interference.
