Roof of Africa is back!

The Roof of Africa Hard Enduro Championship returns from 19 to 22 November for its 2025 edition.

This year, the event takes a different tune as it will be the final round of the World Hard Enduro Championship.

The adrenaline-fuelled event will bring together top riders from 15 countries, including 13 talented Basotho, to conquer the rugged terrain of the Kingdom in the Sky.

The popular race is set to captivate motorsport enthusiasts once again as it returns for its 56th edition.

Unlike many other competitions, the Roof of Africa does not require qualifying races, making it accessible to a wider range of riders eager to test their mettle.

This year’s episode promises to be bigger and better, with around 400 riders participating and 20 of the world’s best hard enduro riders expected to take part including world championships riders in all categories.

The final round of the world championship will be a thrilling spectacle, with riders navigating the challenging mountains and trails of Lesotho. But it is not just about the racing, it is also about showcasing Lesotho’s tourism potential to the world. The event is expected to boost the local economy and promote the country’s natural beauty.

Addressing a press conference to launch this year’s edition on Wednesday this week, the chairperson of Lesotho Off-road Association, Mopeli Ntabe, said this year’s event has attracted an impressive lineup of sponsors, including PTG, ZMG ISUZU Lesotho, FNB-Lesotho, Lesotho National Development Corporation, Bitter Motorbikes, Avani, Exco Group, Blizzard, NPL, Motul, Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation, and the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission.

Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane will also be taking part in the event, competing alongside top riders in 10 cars.

As the riders gear up for the challenge, they are ready to put their skills to test. The Roof of Africa Hard Enduro Championship is more than just a race, it is a celebration of Lesotho’s natural beauty and a testament to the country’s growing reputation as a premier adventure destination.

On his part, the president of the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission, Baba Malephane, noted that motorsport is a costly endeavour that warrants sufficient funding.

He said the sport puts Lesotho on the global map and also attracts tourists who utilise the country’s hospitality services, thereby boosting the local economy through hotel bookings and other services.
