PM takes aim at ‘white elephants’

By Neo Kolane

The Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro has issued corrective directives to ensure all incomplete government projects are completed in the shortest time possible.

Majoro had directed the minister of development planning to tour capital projects’ site across the country between August 3 and September 12, 2020 to identify non-performing and under-performing projects and to work with ministries to find solutions.

“The minister has duly discharged his statutory oversight responsibilities and has now reported to us. His report highlights several challenges including design flaws, corruption, lack of project supervision and poor coordination by ministries during project design and implementation.

“These flaws result in large cost and time overruns and more painfully the failure of government to deliver services to our people and this is unacceptable to this government,” Majoro stated.
