Morai appointed new police chief

Staff Reporter

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) has announced the appointment of Dr Mahlape Morai as acting Commissioner of Police (Compol).

In a brief internal communication issued today, the LMPS says Morai’s appointment is effective from tomorrow, February 24 2024.

The development comes amid reports that Compol Holomo Molibeli has retired following the expiry of his contract yesterday.

Molibeli had been the head of the police since 2017.

Morai becomes only the second female to lead the LMPS, albeit on an acting basis, after ‘Malejaka Letooane who headed the police from 2005 to 2012.
