Mamas and Mimosas: A new brunch for motherhood connection

Event organiser Funiwe Dlamini is preparing to host the inaugural “Mamas and Mimosas” brunch on June 29, 2025, a unique gathering designed to support and celebrate mothers.

With tickets priced at M350, the event promises an intimate, refreshing atmosphere. The brunch will be held at Monono Guesthouse.

Speaking to theReporter, Dlamini shared the inspiration behind the event, which stems from her own journey through pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood.

“Yes, this is the first time I’m hosting Mamas and Mimosas. I wanted to create a space where mothers can connect, share, and just take a break,” she said.

Dlamini described the venue as ‘beautiful and feminine’, perfect for what she calls her “beautiful mommies.” She stressed the importance of an intimate setting to foster genuine conversation and connection.

At the heart of Mamas and Mimosas is the desire to build a meaningful network for mothers, especially in the face of the isolation motherhood can bring.

“Motherhood and pregnancy can be such a lonely time in a woman’s life. There’s so much happening at once. This brunch is about coming together, sharing knowledge, and just letting our hair down. Moms need that kind of break,” Dlamini reflected.

The event will feature a blend of entertainment and expert insight, with discussions covering topics such as postpartum depression, intimacy after childbirth, breastfeeding support, and more. Experts, including gynaecologists, lactation consultants, and, most importantly, fellow mothers, will offer valuable advice and personal perspectives.

Alongside these enriching conversations, attendees can expect ice-breakers, music, dancing, and, of course, a carefully curated brunch.

As a professional caterer, Dlamini is personally overseeing the menu.

“I know exactly what I want the brunch to look like. At the risk of blowing my own horn, the food is going to be amazing,” she prided.

Guests can look forward to a sweet-and-savoury spread, inclusive of various dietary needs, and the event’s signature drink – mimosas.

To ensure a relaxed and safe environment, attendance will be limited.

“It’s important to control the guest list for this first event. We want to keep it intimate as we figure out the logistics of hosting something like this,” Dlamini noted.

While there are no official sponsors or partners yet, Dlamini is open to future collaborations as the event grows.

Her message to potential attendees is simple and heartfelt: “Hey mommy, you deserve a break. I know it, you know it. Come unwind with like-minded mommies. You are not alone.”

Looking to the future, Dlamini is optimistic. The positive early response has shown her just how needed this kind of space is.

“Moms have been wanting something like this; they feel seen,” she said. “I see this growing bigger and better. Eventually, we’ll host it more than once a year.”
