Her Royal Highness Princess Senate Mohato Seeisohas been appointed as UNDP Lesotho’s National Goodwill Ambassador for Equality and Sustainable Development
Speaking at the presentation yesterday, UNDP Resident Representative Dr Jacqueline Olweya said the appointment was not merely the conferring of a title, but an opportunity to carry hope, courage and purpose into schools, villages, businesses and homes.
Dr Olweya said Princess Senate was selected after a rigorous process guided by UNDP headquarters, which assessed her strengths, opportunities and potential challenges.
The Princess stood out among several candidates because of her national standing, youthful leadership and commitment to issues affecting Lesotho, she noted.
Princess Senate thanked UNDP for the trust placed in her and pledged to work with the Government, particularly ministries responsible for equality and sustainable development.
She would also amplify the work of civil society organisations already active in communities.
Addressing young people, particularly girls, Princess Senate said the title was “not a ceiling” but “a door being held open”, urging them to take advantage of opportunities.
She further pledged to work with principal chiefs and community councils, saying lasting change comes through conversation and trust.
She stressed that equality is not a threat to Lesotho culture, but an expression of its values.
