Journalist and human rights activist, KananeloBoloetse, has pleaded with the government to establish a commission of inquiry to uncover the truth about what happened on the day of his abduction last month.
He made the appeal yesterday during Intelwatch’svirtual regional advocacy roundtable, which focused on legal and regulatory threats to press freedom across seven Southern African countries.
Boloetse said he had lost hope in the way authorities have been addressing the matter.
He noted that he started therapy four weeks ago and was gradually healing, but statements made by Commissioner of Police (COMPOL) Advocate Borotho Matsoso and the Minister of Police, VoeswaTsheka, continued to affect his recovery.
“I started therapy four weeks ago, and I was healing. But whenever anyone from Lesotho, either COMPOL or the Minister of Police speaks, it takes me two weeks back,” Boloetse said.
He indicated that statements by officials had left him feeling that they were not committed to resolving the case, adding that he had lost hope in the way they communicated about the matter.
Boloetse stressed that he was not yet ready to share his full account of what happened because he remained emotional.
