Baby in need of liver transplant

By Neo Kolane

The Tlaba family of Khubetsoana in Maseru is desperate. Their nine-month old baby is in urgent need of a liver transplant and her condition is deteriorating by the day.

Ntṧepase V. Tlaba is a nine month-old baby girl who was diagnosed with biliary atresia after her birth on November 13, 2019. Over M1millon is required for her to undergo operation.

Her father, Makara Tlaba, told theReporter on Wednesday that they, however have managed to raise M186, 305. 04 and are still in short of M214, 248. 28.

“We come forward again to ask for donations towards this lifesaving cause.”

When she was three months old, the baby was taken to theatre in Bloemfontein at Rose Park Hospital in Bloemfontein for Kasai-porto enterostomy on January 29, 2020.

Due to the travel restrictions that commenced afterwards, the family missed most of their follow-up visits.

“Dr. S.M LE Grange discovered that the baby was still deeply jaundiced with a large nodular liver and referred the baby to Wits Gordon Medical Centre (WGMC) in Johannesburg where they specialize in liver and kidney transplant.

“On June 30, Dr. M. Beretta at WGMC confirmed that Baby Ntṧepase needs a lifesaving liver transplant operation and that both parents are willing to donate the organ for the sake of their baby. The estimated cost of this surgery was M1055 753, 32 as sent by WGMC on July 1.”

The parents can only afford M655 200, 00.

“I am writing this letter to sincerely ask any individual, company/office to assist in whatever way it can to help the family in trying to cover up the shortfalls which amount to M400 553, 32.

“The baby was admitted in WGMC on August 20 as the baby had variceal bleeding on August 19; she was rushed to Johannesburg for medical attention. She is under surveillance and being stabilized. However, liver transplant is still the ultimate solution.”

The family, meanwhile, would like to thank everyone who has contributed, financially and otherwise, to baby Ntśepase’s liver transplant. “We are humbled by your overwhelming support and cannot thank you enough.”

Donations may be made to the following bank account: FNB ACC 62239765649. Branch Code 280061

Or by Mpesa 58053089 (Makara Tlaba) and EcoCash 69176549 (Ntsepase Tlaba)
