SA rejects Lesotho’s rapid test results

By Neo Kolane

Certificates of the Covid-19 rapid testing done on the Lesotho side of the border gate are being rejected on the South African side.

This was revealed by health minister Motlatsi Maqelepo, who said this happens despite an agreement with the Free State health MEC Montsheng Tsiu, to put up rapid testing facilities at the ports of entry/exit for returning to South Africa.

“The problem now is that the certificates are being rejected by immigration officials in SA,” Maqelepo said.

According to Maqelepo, Tsiu has since told him she had met resistence from the immigration officials who insist they take orders from the SA government in Preroria, not the provincial one.

Maqelepo told the media in Maseru on Friday that the MEC had reassured him she was discussing the matter with the SA deputy health minister view a view to resolving it.

“Everyone whose certificate was rejected will be refunded today so they can re-test on the South African side,” Maqelepo said.
