King launches Covid booster vaccine

By Neo Kolane

The King, Letsie III and Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso yesterday officiated the launch of a new Covid booster vaccine at Scott Hospital in Morija.

The Covid booster shot is an additional dose of a vaccine given after the protection provided by the original shots has begun to decrease over time. It helps people maintain strong protection from severe coronavirus disease.

Speaking at the event, the hospital’s public health nurse, ‘Mampeo Makhabane said the shot boosts the immune system’s capacity to continue fighting the virus.

Makhabane said the booster dose is given to everyone who has completed their Covid-19 vaccination.

“The booster dose is given six months after a person has vaccinated,” Makhabane said.

The chief executive officer, of the National Covid-19 Secretariat Thabo Ntoi revealed that the booster shot is manufactured by the same vaccine manufacturers, Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson.

He however pleads with everyone who has vaccinated to receive their booster dose, saying it is available at health facilities.
