Two young, sassy business honchos, Rorisang Motlomelo and Mosa Matasane, will launch the first release of Digi—Doctor on Friday. Digi-Doctor is a mobile health app that is set to ease and speed up the purchasing of pharmaceutical products.

The 32-year old co-founders of Digi-Doctor say the mobile health app facilitates digital access to a doctor by enabling a patient to order both over-the-counter and prescription medications from pharmacies. It offers a patient an option to pick up their purchase or request a delivery.

Motlomelo says this service will come in handy, especially in the light of the Covid-19 restrictions which have seen people unable to move around easily. It will also keep the pharmacist abreast of the demand for different medications.

“The end goal is for Digi-Doctor to bridge the gap of access to health care in Lesotho by allowing a person to use their phones to consult a doctor virtually in the world,” Motlomelo stated.

“Through the apps first release, users will be able to order medicine from any of our pharmacies and will have an option to pick up or request the medicines to be delivered to them at a fee.

A professional model in her heyday, Motlomelo also stated that the app is to be rolled out in phases and the roadmap entails capabilities that will allow the users to have virtual consultation with doctors.

“The highlight will be the ability for a user doctor to send the results to a specialist who will then advise on remedial action to be followed.”

Chipping in, Matasane stated that Digi-Doctor is a Basotho women-led company which also comprises two male developers.

“The App has a nice feature where one can locate the three closest pharmacies or doctors around you; this means when a person needs health care, they open the health care app. You open your phone, get a doctor, psychologist and pharmacy because these are the three people we need most every day.

Matasane also stated that when a person has a headache, they can access the app and talk to a doctor to analyze it.

“We get you in touch with your doctor, you can use our app with absolute peace of mind because mobile apps are desk-free and provide instantaneous interaction between patient and doctor,” she explained.

The two women are collaborating with four pharmacies – three in Maseru and one in Mohale’s Hoek; they will be looking at the other districts, going forward.

They revealed plans to venture into virtual doctor consultation and virtual specialist opinion consultation as they go on.

Matasane also mentioned that, for now, the app is on APK which can be found on affiliated websites but from next week it will be on Play Store as well.
