SACU mulls AfCTA

By Kefiloe Kajane

The Southern African Customs Union (SACU) will host a webinar to tomorrow disseminate information and raise awareness on the implementation of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

According to a statement by SACU the three-hour webinar will primarily share information with the business community on market dispensation under the AfCFTA.

The statement further indicated that trading under the AfCFTA commenced on January 1. It also stated that this marked a significant milestone forward the continental integration objectives.

SACU explained that The AfCFTA is one of the flagships for achieving Africa aspirations.

“The Africa we want, is outlined under the Africa Strategic Framework for Development Agenda 2063.  The AfCFTA primarily aims to boost intra –Africa trade, continental integration and development, with the target of increasing trade with the continent.

“Senior representatives from the SACU ministries of trade and industry as well as customs administrations in the member states, will participate in the webinar to share their countries’ perspectives, status on the implementation of the AfCFTA and measures put in place to facilitate trade under the AfCFTA,” the statement read.

This will include information regarding customs administrative arrangements for the implementation market opportunities and export facilitation at the national level. The business community will also share their views about this continental milestone.
