RunFree to hold art expo

By Neo Kolane

RunFree in association with SELEMELA has organized an art exhibition where seven artists will showcase their works. The event is set for May 25-29 at the Maseru Industrial Area.

The exhibition dubbed common grounds will have young artists showcasing their various works after a long time of absence from the public space.

According to the organiser Puso Maliehe, RunFree is a platform established for freedom of expression that allows the youth to express themselves through artwork. It helps to promote local visual arts for the local market.

SELEMELA on the other hand is a social enterprise that delivers custom-built educational solutions.

Its overall goal is to bridge the gap between education theory and practice in Lesotho through storytelling, dialogue and collaboration; thus improving access to quality, equitable and relevant education in accordance with the government of Lesotho’s education sector plans.

RunFree is known for holding exhibitions that included that of Mosali oa Mo-Afrika in 2019.

Maliehe said it has been a long time since they had not held any event of this kind. He said the May event is set to let the seven participating artists to bring works of their choice.

According to him, the seven artists are expected to bring six pieces each, being either old artefacts or new ones.

Hlasoa Lenoesa, Khotso Makoetlane, Alvin Lesoli, Mpho Nkoe, Reitumetse Mokheseng, Pitso Lekatsa and Katiso Panya are the artists lined up for the exhibition.

“The artists may want to incorporate their works with the pandemic Covid-19 as a means of communicating various messages to those attending.

There are no restrictions as the artists are allowed a choice of their own on items that they bring.
