The face behind Xysthus Art

By Kefiloe Kajane

Motlatsi Nteko is the name behind social media sensation self-taught painter and artist Xysthus Art. He spoke to theReporter this week about what inspired him to be an artist who is climbing the charts to be one of the big names in the career.

Xysthus Art paints apparels and everything from signs, logos and anything that his clients want.

Nteko said he has always loved art from childhood, as he wanted to pursue architecture or graphic designing. But later on, he ended up studying nursing.

He said in 2019 after he finished nursing school lessons, he decided to pursue his long time burning desire of art as he was also going through a phase of unemployment.

“I started with painting my room walls since I did not have much to do anyway. I really thought about it and decided to move on. After I shared that on Facebook and got positive feedback, I have been painting and drawing various attractions.

“I feel so good after drawing or when I wear custom clothes. Knowing that worldwide there is only one sweater like the ones I adorn makes me feel unique and feel good. That’s what keeps me going,” he said.

He expressed that he is his own inspiration because his art improvement inspires him. Seeing his shortcomings in the career and correcting them in the next artwork is glory for him.

Nteko explained that there is a lot of pressure that comes with being known and considered one of the best. Though he ensures that his clients do get what they need.

He thanked everyone who supports him, He could sense that Basotho are getting to know that there is an art king in the city and that his name is Xysthus.
