Lesotho Fashion Week returns

By Poloko Mokhele

Preparations for Lesotho Fashion Week (LSFW) 2022 autumn, winter have begun with the organisers promising fashion lovers an assortment of styles to be on display.

LSFW is a business to business marketing platform for fashion in footwear, accessories and jewellery.

Designers from different countries showcase their seasonal collections to the media, retail buyers and celebrities in both Africa and internationally.

The show is hosted twice in a year with the first being in April or May for three days, showcasing spring or summer women and men’s clothing collections. The second is held either in October or November.

In an interview with theReporter this week, LSFW founder, Mahali Granier, said: “We are coming back with another fashion week scheduled to take place from the 23-24 April 2022 at a secret location.”

According to Granier April is known as one of the biggest fashion months in Lesotho, where designers reveal collections of the next season. The show will be held under the theme slow fashion.

The LSFW 2022 event is expected to feature ten fashion designers from Lesotho, South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

“Guests will be able to shop some of the items on the runway at LSFW designer boutique, which has curated offerings from Pan-African ready-to-wear and luxury brands,” Granier said.

Granier added: “A lot of African fashion designers had already been doing ‘slow fashion’ before but they did not even know it. The collections that will be showcased on the runway this season are proudly made in Africa. They are not made in huge quantities. For a very long time, we were so ashamed of that but now we are proud of it. It is amazing.”

LSFW was first launched on 1 November 2018 at Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village and was officiated by the ministry of tourism, environment and culture.

The second edition took place from 3-5 May 2019 at Mpilo Boutique Hotel and was sponsored by Woolworths and Wella Professionals, a major German hair care company headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany.

The third edition took place on the 19-20 December 2020 at The Advocate Suits at Hillsview in Maseru.
