Misa reports back on reforms

Media Institute of Southern Africa Misa) Lesotho on Tuesday provided journalists with a report on the National Reforms Committee’s (NRA) progress on media reforms.

Misa chairperson Nkoale Tšoana who represents the media in the NRA said the report is meant to show major strides that have been made by authority.

Among other developments, he said NRA has developed reports, and drafted bills that were submitted to Parliament in line with the NRA Act No. 4 of 2019.

“A Referendum Bill which was tabled before Parliament and referred to the relevant Portfolio Committee. The Bill provides for the procedure for holding a referendum. Some of the Constitutional amendments that NRA is currently developing will require the holding of a referendum since they are double entrenched in the Lesotho Constitution.

“Then there is the National Media Policy which was duly adopted by Parliament on November 29 2021. The purpose of the Policy is to provide for a framework that will ensure that the media industry works in a professional and efficient manner.

“The National Media Code of Conduct, Behaviour and Good Practice which was tabled today before Parliament, will regulate the behaviour and conduct of the media industry,” he said.
