Countdown to Gin and Trout festival

By Neo Kolane

The first pop up for the second edition of the Lesotho Gin and Trout festival will be held on March 26 2022 at Clarens in South Africa.

This year’s Lesotho Gin and Trout edition is The Great Awakening with the slogan The Spirit of the Kingdom which will be on the first week of December.

One of the organisers, Tṧokolo Makeka told theReporter that the first pop up is for people to be familiar with a showcasing of gin and trout

Makeka said the team will be serving local gin Senate Premium Gin by Neo Sekhesa, nectar syrup by Bokang Matlosa as well as trout by Moshe Mosaase.

Makeka said the gin and trout pairing may be somewhat a strange combination but Makeka has a perfect reason for naming the festival as such.

“Gin is a lively and various spirit that is attached to a different and alternative lifestyle unlike other spirits. One can be creative and mix it with a variety of herbs and fruits. Gin has different flavours but it does not lose its taste. One can have pineapple gin and blueberry. It is not about it being better than other spirits but people can find a gin that suits their personality and taste,” Makeka explained.

He said trout fish must not be perceived as expensive because it can be viewed as a national dish that is readily available. It can be prepared in a variety of ways.

Makeka added that the last pop up was in 2019 at PinsNstripes rooftop bar in Maseru, Molimo -Nthuse Lodge, Mahlakapese Guest House and a fleet tour at the Cherry Festival in Ficksburg.

“Our patrons should expect the kind of fun they have always longed for; great food, delicious drinks and memorable experiences. We are also going to be launching festival merchandise and people should be on the lookout for Dirty Trout Rooftop Club, our NFT project that offers year round perks and experiences for loyal members,” Makeka said.

Tickets to the event are available on computicket.  Details for subsequent pop ups will be released on social media.
