Alliance Française celebrates Bastille Day

By Neo Kolane

The Alliance Française today celebrated the Bastille Day (the French National Day) and the rehabilitation of the Alliance Française in Maseru.

Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the national day of France, which is celebrated on 14 July each year

While English speakers refer to Bastille Day, in France the day is intimately related to a different historical event: the Fête de la Fédération (Festival of the Federation), a mass gathering held on July 14 1790

The ambassador of France to South Africa and Lesotho H.E.Aurélien Lechevallier said that the celebration was last celebrated Lesotho in 2015.

Lechevallier added that therefore it is needed that to be celebrated today.

He explained that the corporation and friendship between the two countries that is endured today has influenced in the shared history of the countries.

“Alliance Française is the face of France in Lesotho on a daily basis and the representative of the French community here in Lesotho.

“The Alliance Française has been representing France for more than 30 years and has distinguished itself by its diversity and vibrant controlling programme.

“It has become one of the main institutes in the country, and we are extremely proud,” Lechevallier said.
