Police recover weapons, drugs

By Neo Kolane

Police have recovered an assortment of weapons during a recent countrywide operation.

Operation USALAMA (security) is a regional initiative aimed at fighting crime in the Southern African Development Communities countries. It ran from August 14-18, 2023 in all member countries.

The Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) interim spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Kabelo Halahala said police found a 9mm gun with six bullets and a revolver with one bullet during the operation. These were handed over to the police.

Halahala told a press briefing on Tuesday that police also recovered 33 knives, two shields, cannabis and crystal meth during random searches.

Two people were arrested.

Two cars which are suspected to have been stolen from South Africa were also recovered.

“Eleven cows were recovered and four of them were identified and released to their owners in South Africa. Sixteen sheep and eight goats were also recovered, leading to the arrest of two suspects,” Halahala noted.
