Econet Lesotho works towards digitalisation

By Neo Kolane

As part of celebrating its 10th anniversary, a subsidiary of Econet Telecom Lesotho, Sasai Econet Financial Services (SEFS), has announced developments that it says exemplify its commitment to innovation and service.

The two announcements are partnerships with Fintech business Mukuru Lesotho and retail chain store Pick ’n Pay Lesotho, which it has made while working towards digitilisation.

Speaking at the anniversary commemoration this week, the general manager of SEFS ‘Matikoe Letsie said a decade ago, the organization embarked on a mission to bring financial inclusion to every corner of the nation. This was part of a vision to empower individuals, families and businesses with accessible, reliable and innovative solutions.

Letsie said as SEFS reflects on the path it has travelled, it can proudly say that it has exceeded expectations.

She explained that their pioneering mobile money platform, Eco-Cash, has become a symbol of convenience, empowerment and progress. It has also become a catalyst for economic growth and stability.

“Through Eco-Cash, we have empowered entrepreneurs to launch and expand businesses, families to receive and send funds across distances, and communities to access financial services that were once beyond their reach.

“The collaboration with Mukuru Lesotho will bring greater ease and speed to international remittances.

“It will connect families across borders and enable them to send and receive funds securely through the Eco-Cash platform.” Letsie said.

She indicated that SEFS is also expanding its ecosystem to address everyday needs, and the partnership with Pick ’n Pay will introduce a seamless grocery payment experience.

“This is a step towards providing holistic financial solutions that enhance the lives of our customers. The journey to this moment has been marked by innovation, dedication and commitment to listen to the needs of our customers,” she added.

At the same occasion, the country director of Mukuru Lesotho, ‘Maleseli Mohapinyane, said the partnership with Eco-Cash is another level of working towards digitalisation.

Mohapinyane said there are family members all over the world and there is no better comfort to them than knowing that their hard-earned money is safe and can be instantly and conveniently sent and received.

“Mukuru uses the latest mobile and web-based technologies including Cash Stop for both inbound and outbound money transfers. These technologies enable us to deliver the safest and most efficient experience for our customers.

“Our strength lies in our ability to merge the use of these technologies with infrastructure that supports our services on the ground across Africa and globally,” she added.
