Gospel artist releases 13th album

By Mosa Matela

In honour of 18 years in the gospel industry, singer Rorisang Motsamai released his 13th studio album titled “U ea halalela” on Wednesday last week.

His intention is to provide the public with soulful music to uplift their spirits.

Thirty-two-year-old Motsamai is an award-winning gospel singer from Mohale’s Hoek. Since his debut in the gospel music industry in 2006, he has released a total of 13 successful and spiritually uplifting gospel albums.

Motsamai was immensely inspired by Dr Rebecca Malope, a well-known South African gospel singer, after attending one of her live recording sessions with his family in 1997.

He describes this experience as having been so spiritually liberating and beautiful that he instantly knew this was his passion and what he wanted to do for life.

“That entire experience had me feeling filled with joy and gratitude. I was genuinely so happy. Seeing her in a space of comfort, where she was able to share her voice and her passion with us was honestly so inspiring. I was honoured,” Motsamai said.

Since 2006, Motsamai has had the opportunity to perform on a number of international stages in front of thousands of people where he shared his passion and talent with the world.

Motsamai gains inspiration for his music from a variety of social issues and hopes that people that are going through certain hardships will be able to find peace and healing in the messages he relays.

“One of my projects titled ‘Ha ke so bone ha Jehova a hloloa’ (I’ve never seen Jehova losing a battle) was inspired by the high unemployment rates in both South Africa and Lesotho. I wanted to give people hope that everything will be okay,” he said.

So far, Motsamai has won a total of three awards. Later this year on 2 December he will be hosting the Mokorotlo Music Awards alongside Grace Matlotlo and fellow gospel music star Tṧepo Kherenchane. Nominations for the awards are set to begin in the first week of October.

The award ceremony will be honouring artists of different genres such as gospel, kwaito, amapiano and more. It will be held at Manthabiseng Convention Centre. More details will be released towards the said dates.

“U ea halalela” is part one of a two-part live DVD recording and is available on all digital platforms. Part two will be released later this year, on November 29.

Motsamai urges listeners to tune in and find healing and happiness in his music.
