Motjoli FM suspended

‘Mantšali Phakoana

The Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) has directed Motjoli FM to switch off its radio broadcasting transmission equipment.

The resolution was made during the LCA board’s sitting on December 15, 2023 and comes into effect immediately.

This comes after the Thaba-Tseka based community radio station failed to renew its broadcasting licence after it expired on December 11, 2023.

In a statement LCA public affairs manager noted, Mothepane Kotele: “Pursuant to Section 5 (z) of the Communications Act of 2012 read together with rule 8 (1) (a), (b), and (c) the board of directors of the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) has resolved to direct Motjoli FM, a community radio Station based in Thaba-Tseka to switch off its radio broadcasting transmission equipment.”

Kotele said the enforcement order would remain effective until the station has submitted an application for the provision of sound broadcasting services and the licence application has been approved by the board.

“The authority will carry out follow-up inspections as and when necessary to ensure that the resolution of the Board is complied with,” she added.
