COLEPE plans strike

‘Mantšali Phakoana

The Coalition of Lesotho Public Employees (COLEPE) has planned to go on a nationwide demonstration on February 23, 2024.

In a weekend statement, COLEPE said this is after negotiations between the government and the association for a salary increase failed.

The organisation has been pushing for a 25 percent salary hike since 2022.

“After the government reneged on the bargaining process, the prime minister (Sam Matekane) was issued with a letter bringing his attention to the collapsed negotiations, which he unfortunately ignored.

“Meanwhile, effective from Monday 12 February 2024, all members will be ‘busy’ in all public sectors in preparation for the (upcoming) demonstration,” it noted.

COLEPE is an alliance of the Lesotho Police Staff Association (LEPOSA), the Lesotho Public Service Association (LEPSSA), the Lesotho Association of Teachers (LAT), the Lesotho Teachers’ Trade Union (LTTU), the Lesotho Schools Principals’ Association (LESPA), the Qiloane Nursing Assistants’ Association (QINUASA), and the Lesotho Nurses’ Association (LNA).
