Happy birthday to us!

theReporter turns five.

It’s always surprising how time flies.

When we started out in 2019, only a few gave us a chance to make any meaningful impact in a media industry dominated by newspapers that have been in existence for many years.

But we were determined to succeed against all odds. Not even for a second did we believe the journey would be easy; we knew the treacherous terrain we were embarking on.

Without any solid funding or bank loan to get us off the ground, we as directors of Barumuoa Communications (PTY) Ltd – publishers of theReporter – dug into our pockets and took the plunge, driven by our shared desire to start a project of our own, having garnered years of experience working in the media.

Of course, as expected, we encountered some teething challenges including spiraling printing charges, salaries, and distribution costs. The uninspired and faint hearted would have thrown in the towel but we persevered.

We are not yet out of the woods, but the same desire that has seen us becoming one of Lesotho’s most influential publications, continues to push us.

We wouldn’t have gone this far were it not for the amazing support from you, our most valued advertisers and loyal readers, who have stood by us. We’re truly humbled and can’t thank you enough.

Now, we look back with a sense of pride as we proudly continue pursuing our goal of giving you news that you need and trust every Friday. A useful and reliable repository.

We value your feedback as it enables us to refine our product. Last year, theReporter won the African Excellence Award for ‘Digital and Print Newspaper of the Year 2023 – Lesotho’.

The newspaper is among 33 winners from various sectors across Africa honoured by leading London-based magazine, MEA Markets. The awards recognise people and companies driving change in Africa through innovation.

We appreciate such acknowledgement and promise not to rest on our laurels, but to deliver better reading.

The Barumuoa Communications team, publishers of theReporter, says: “We’ll continue to give content that our readers want, which is factual and free from bias.”
