April Mahase continues to enjoy the sweet smell of her success.
Not so long ago, Mahase launched ‘Tell It All’, a YouTube podcast which instantly opened door for her to host a Magazine show called Afrimaxx.
Afrimaxx is a weekly lifestyle magazine show on Home Channel DStv channel 176 that searches for inspiration and innovation in all areas of popular culture – from fashion and design through to architecture, art, food and travel.
The focus is on outstanding individuals doing extraordinary things on the African continent.
Afrimaxx showcases contemporary lifestyle for a young, emergent pan-African target group: inspiring, motivating, future-oriented.
Since it aired in August 2022, the magazine has presented creatives in their home nations; visiting renowned designers, musicians, architects who are leaving their mark on the young continent.
The programme is a co-production between DW and “Arena Holding” in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The format curates a pan-African cultural mosaic for a young, emergent target group by showcasing the innovation and creativity of Africa’s many diverse nations.
With “Afrimaxx”, DW illustrates lifestyle and trends from Africa as a cosmopolitan, modern and aspirational continent.
In an interview with theReporter, Mahase said she was recommended by her friend, Tṧepo RMC Bahlakoana, who is the director of the show, to host it after he saw her work.
This is Mahase’s first TV gig outside the country. She has done television on Lesotho TV before and of course on her podcast.
Asked if she expected this, Mahase said “No! I didn’t expect it at all. It’s still so surreal; even today because it is huge.
“It means growth, and I love growing. I love learning and increasing my skills and talent. Now I know for sure I can do this internationally and do it well.”
Mahase noted that she cries when she thinks of how deep and tremendous the support from Basotho has been.
She also feels blessed to have her country acknowledge her work and support her.
“I can feel they want to see me grow and also Lesotho as a nation. I’ve seen how excited they get when they have one of them representing them on the international stage.
“It’s heartwarming and for that I want to thank them. God bless them because I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for their daily encouragements. I love them dearly, truly I can go on forever,” she added.
