Prime Minister Sam Matekane has handed over a M16 million electrification project in Peka.
The project, connecting 554 households in the villages of Ha-Ralikariki, Ha-Letsika, Ha-Mpeke, Ha-Tsea, Ha-Motako and Ha-‘Marana, is part of the government’s drive to achieve universal access to electricity by 2030.
Speaking at the handover ceremonyyesterday, Matekane said access to electricity is expected to improve the livelihoods of Basotho by stimulating business growth, improving learning conditions in schools and enhancing healthcare services.
He urged residents to protect the newly installed infrastructure from vandalism and theft.
Principal Chieftainess of Peka, PontšoMathealira, welcomed the project and thanked the Peka community for its support.
She said the availability of electricity would help attract investors and improve access to essential services in the area.
