The Competitiveness and Financial Inclusion (CAFI) Project, in partnership with the Central Bank of Lesotho (CBL), has held a two-day workshop to equip journalists with skills needed to cover economic issues, investment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion more effectively.
Lesotho’s economy is closely linked to South Africa through trade, investment and the Common Monetary Area, increasing the need for accurate and accessible business journalism.
Senior CBL economist, Realeboha Khomali said the media plays a vital role in helping the public understand economic policies, as well as market trends and developments that influence businesses, employment and household livelihoods.
Chaba Mokuku, CAFI CEO noted that better-informed reporting can improve public understanding of financial matters, encourage entrepreneurship, and increase awareness of available financial services.
He added that strengthening journalists’ capacity is key to ensuring economic information is presented accurately, clearly, and in a way that supports informed decision-making and national development.
