The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) says heavy snowfall is expected in Lesotho’s highland areas fromtomorrow night to Thursday, based on a forecast from the Lesotho Meteorological Services.
In a statement yesterday, the DMA advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during this period, saying heavy snow could leave travellers stranded and the cold weather could be dangerous.
Motorists were also urged to avoid travelling early in the morning or late in the evening because icy roads increase the risk of accidents.
The Authority further called on livestock owners, especially those in the highlands, to move their animals to safe shelters and work closely with herders to protect them from the severe weather.
The DMA also encouraged the public to use safe heating methods to prevent fires and to continue following official weather updates and safety advice throughout the winter season.
