Court suspends operations amid maintenance concerns

The Matala Local Court has suspended all operations for two weeks to allow for essential maintenance, citing health and safety concerns.

Court President Mathuntsi Ntsala said the decision was driven by hazardous paint fumes resulting from the ongoing renovations.

She noted that the health risks posed to staff, especially those with respiratory conditions, including one court president who suffers from asthma.

In an interview with theReporter, Ntsala explained that the paint being used emits strong fumes, which could be dangerous for both staff and the public.

She stressed that the temporary closure is a precautionary measure to safeguard everyone’s well-being.

“The safety of our personnel and the public is paramount. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate the community’s understanding during this time,” Ntsala added.

The court is expected to resume normal operations once the maintenance is completed at the end of the two-week period.
