2025 Bacha Entrepreneurship Project launched

The Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL), in partnership with Standard Lesotho Bank and the Basotho Enterprises Development Corporation (BEDCO), has launched the 2025 Bacha Entrepreneurship Project, an initiative aimed at fostering innovation, job creation, and economic growth in Lesotho.

Launched this week in Maseru, the project continues a legacy that began in 2014 and has since been instrumental in creating opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs across the country.

Standard Lesotho Bank’s Marketing Manager for Communications and Sponsorships, Manyathela Kheleli, announced that the project will provide M1.4 million in financial support to selected young entrepreneurs.

“This presents a significant opportunity for talented individuals with innovative ideas to turn their dreams into reality and make a positive impact on our society,” Kheleli said.

To date, the initiative has supported 33 businesses and created employment for 184 young people.

“Our ultimate goal is to eliminate youth unemployment and promote a culture of entrepreneurship. By investing in the youth and nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit, we believe we can unlock untapped potential and drive sustainable growth for generations to come,” he noted.

Head of RSL’s Strategic Partnerships and Public Relations Unit, Phello Mphana, highlighted that the project offers more than just funding. It also provides mentorship, training, and continuous support.

“Launching a business is not only about capital; it’s also about building capacity and confidence,” he said. “Our youth are full of ideas, creativity, and the desire to build something meaningful, but they are often held back by a lack of access to funding, skills, and networks. Through this initiative, we are investing not only in businesses but in dreams.”

A senior manager at BEDCO, ‘Mamahapela Mokuoane, emphasised that the organisation’s role is to ensure that support reaches the right hands and that entrepreneurs receive assistance throughout their journey.

“Our mission is to ensure that available funding benefits the right recipients. We also coordinate various activities to make sure the needs and concerns of the Basotho people are addressed effectively,” Mokuoane said.

The 2025 Bacha Entrepreneurship Project stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment for young Basotho innovators ready to shape the future of Lesotho’s economy.
