Matekane mourns former Kenyan PM Odinga

Prime Minister Samuel Matekane has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kenya following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr Raila Odinga.
In his message to Kenyan President William Ruto, Matekane expressed Lesotho’s solidarity with Kenya during its period of national mourning, describing Odinga as a towering statesman and tireless advocate for democracy, unity, and social justice.
“The late Dr Odinga will be remembered as a true son of Africa – a leader whose vision, courage, and conviction transcended borders. His lifelong dedication to peace, democracy, and the empowerment of African people will remain a beacon of hope for generations to come,” Matekane said.
He noted that Odinga’s legacy would continue to inspire leaders across the continent to uphold the values of freedom, equality, and Pan-African solidarity.
Odinga, 80, died on Wednesday while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in India. He will be buried tomorrow at his home in Bondo, Siaya County.
