UNFPA strengthens MPs’ role in advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights

Local MPs are attending a three-day a capacity building workshop on promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), ending Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and preventing HIV in Lesotho.

The workshop, which started today in Maseru, is being organised by the UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, in collaboration with Parliament. It aims to enhance the capacity of legislators to effectively carry out their oversight, legislative, and representative functions.

Through interactive sessions and expert-led discussions, the MPs are expected to gain practical guidance on SRHR, GBV, and HIV oversight indicators, strengthen their ability to ask evidence-based questions during parliamentary sessions, and review national progress and challenges in addressing teenage pregnancy, and youth empowerment.
