Princess leads school donation drive initiative

Princess Senate Seeiso has led the launch of ‘SHOESHOE EA MOSHOESHOE’, a school donation drive initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged learners across the country.

The initiative, launched in Maseru this week, seeks to provide essential educational supplies to disadvantaged students in different schools nationwide.

Delivering the keynote address, Princess Senate said the programme forms part of efforts to promote the values of King Moshoeshoe I. Basotho commemorated Moshoeshoe’s Day on Wednesday.

She noted that the initiative aligns with the country’s bicentennial celebrations and aims to mobilise partnerships to support education.

The programme will provide basic school necessities such as socks, pens, rulers and sanitary towels, among other items, through annual donations.

Princess Senate urged Basotho to take collective responsibility in supporting learners, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

She announced that the programme will begin in Matsieng and neighbouring schools, with plans to gradually expand the initiative to other parts of the country in the coming years.

One of the organisers, Khotso Moletsane, popularly known as Quizy, said the school donation drive would be implemented through collaboration with the media, corporate sector and members of the public.

Moletsane said the project was established to restore dignity among underprivileged learners and marginalised communities.

“Education remains a priority under the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to ensure universal access to education by 2030.”

Deputy Principal Secretary at the Royal Palace, ‘MantšeboNtaote, said the launch follows a programme introduced by Princess Senate last year to instill love for Sesotho language and culture among Basotho children.

Meanwhile, Maseru Mall Manager Nkala Motlalane expressed appreciation that the Princess chose the Mall as the venue for the launch.

Motlalane said the Mall was honoured to host the event and pledged support from its 103 tenants towards the initiative.
