Bosotho captured through art

By Seleoe Nonyane

In a move aimed at showcasing Basotho talent to the world, Nkuebe Molapo is set to present a show called WORK OF ART at Maseru Club on September 17, 2023.

The event will feature a fashion show, an art exhibition, music performances, poetry and podcasts.

Founder and curator for WORK OF ART, Molapo told theReporter this week that in order to have all these activities on the same day, time is of essence that is, they need to keep within their time slot of 09:00-18:00.

He revealed that things like art pieces will be displayed the whole day so that people can experience different emotions each time they see the pieces.

He noted that the country is awash with highly talented people who barely receive a platform to showcase their talents, hence the most important aspect of the show is creation of a platform for up-and-coming artists.

“If we were to be asked to put artists up to represent Lesotho, we would only have about five yet we have a country filled artists that just need a shout to say ‘hey guys this is what I do’,” Molapo said.

He lamented that a lot of talented people have not been seen or heard before.

He added that he and his team desire to celebrate established Basotho brands, emphasizing that the only way to growth is showing love to each other.

“We want to show our fellow citizens that there’s a lot of talent in our land, that needs to be appreciated. We have to appreciate our own talents before we expect others to appreciate us,” he said.

He noted that they also want to create substance in the country’s art community.

Molapo further indicated that the name of the show plays on the word “artwork” because they are showcasing many forms of art such as fashion show, art exhibition and podcasts hence WORK OF ART.

He reiterated that they want to create an experience where people can enjoy good music, art, fashion and listen to conversations through podcasts.

This will be the inaugural edition of WORK OF ART, he said, promising people to look forward to good music, a chilled Sunday and good art.
