Nickson continues to wow music scene

By Mosa Matela

Local rapping sensation Nickson (real name Lebohang Thabane) is slowly but steadily making inroads in the music scene with authentic rap.

He is also venturing into other projects and working on becoming a household name.

A 2023 International Baccalaureate (IB) graduate from Machabeng College, Thabane is an aspiring architecture student and an outgoing socialite who continues to make thrive in the music industry. He considers himself an overall success-story in progress.

Thabane’s love for music stems from him finding therapy, healing, growth and transformation in music. He uses his rhymes as an outlet, where listeners get to experience him authentically.

He has always been passionate about art. He has ventured into a lot of different aspects of the entertainment industry and continues to gun for progression and growth in terms of his craft.

He experienced his ‘lightning in a bottle’ moment in 2016, where Mahlomola Ngatane – professionally known as Ale Roize – produced his first song in church.

From there Thabane realised that this is indeed something he is passionate about, and began pushing his craft.

“The entire experience jump-started my career in the music industry, and I’m so thankful for Ngatane. I still have so much to learn for him, and I genuinely can’t wait to see how far my music career can go,” Thabane said.

The artist has been privileged enough to work with other local artists such as Thorela Tsikoane, Thabile Mpakane, Pheello Ramahlosi and more.

“Not only are these very close friends of mine, they are extremely talented individuals that I continue to draw inspiration from. I enjoy working with them and I can’t wait for more collaborations to come,” he noted.

His latest drop is a single titled “So Wussup” in collaboration with Nitro. The inspiration behind the song is the catchy vibe brought by the question, as it has a plethora of possible answers and can also signify them being ready for anything that comes their way.

It sparked spontaneously when the artist Nitro started reciting the phrase rhythmically, and then deciding to add a beat and transform into the banger that it is today.

Musically, he has two projects underway. The first one is an Alpha Renaissance Tape vol.2 which should be ready by August 28 2024.

The second project is an untitled RnB EP that should be ready for release early December 2023, where Nickson will be pushing his singing vocals.

He has also collaborated with Fifth Ocean Jewellery, where he has modelled a few of their pieces and is teasing a jewellery drop in about two weeks.

His music is available on streaming platforms. However, listeners can follow and pick and his music from https://songwhip.com/nicksonthabane
