Hip Hop artist Tankiso Mosethe, known as Stango G Matango, is looking to release his first project in 2024.
After making music for nine years now, Stango is adamant that it is time for him to take a step further in his career and release an EP.
Talking to this publication this week, the rapper from Maputsoe Ha ‘Mathata revealed that he makes his music in Sesotho.
He said it is important for him to rap in his home language as this will distinguish him from other artists at international level.
Stango noted that he settled for the Hip Hop genre because this is where he is able to express himself and his feelings.
He grew up listening to Hip Hop and Kwaito and most of the time he would relate to their stories.
It is for this reason that he took the musical route to tell his story, which he strongly believed was worth telling.
“I do not only make Hip Hop music but I’ve also delved into Kwaito as well. With my Kwaito music, I can make people happy.
“My journey has been a rough one because Hip-Hop artists hardly get any bookings these days. However, one thing that I enjoy about being an artist is that I get to meet different kinds of people.
“This, in my view, is important as I believe it gives me an opportunity to learn something from them. It also gives me gratification when I see people happy because of my music,” Stango said.
However, he stated that being a musician has a downside to it, as limits one’s time with their loved ones.
He said he has been releasing singles every year until now, and mentioned that the highlight of his career was in 2014 when he collaborated with Mzwakhe, the ‘Ba njella mona’ hit maker on the song titled ‘Lerato’.
The artist said he has three favourite tracks from his songs, and top of the list is ‘Hope Alive’ where he featured locally based Zimbabwean artist, Wellington Mubereki.
“It is my favourite because it’s inspired by my sister’s death; it gives me courage to never stop pushing no matter how hard life gets,” he said.
His second favourite track is ‘Tsela tsee’ featuring Dj Bistos from Maputsoe.
Completing the list of Matango’s favourite tracks is ‘Ha Maqele’ as it reminds him of the good old days when he used to roll with his gang.
Matango added that he usually performs in Leribe and Berea but his undying wish is to perform in all 10 districts of Lesotho and outside the country.
