Econet goes ‘back to school’

Mobile network Econet Telecom Lesotho has continued its commitment to community development and education with a generous donation of school uniforms, shoes, and socks worth M25,000 to Thuathe Primary School learners at an event held on Monday.

This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens on families and ensure that every child has access to quality education in a conducive learning environment.

In recognition of the crucial role education plays in shaping future leaders, Econet Telecom Lesotho has embarked on a mission to support underprivileged communities and promote equal opportunities for all children.

With this ethos at heart, the company’s employees, dressed in their graduation regalia, visited ThuathePrimary school to donate school uniforms, shoes, and socks to 67 students in support of the Ministry of Education’s call for institutions to contribute to this year’s back to school day initiative.

“It is within our DNA and culture as Econet Telecom Lesotho to support those that are in dire need during this important time of the year. We are ecstatic that we are once again able to make this positive impact on the lives of the young students at Thuathe Primary School,” said Econet Telecom Lesotho’s General Manager – Marketing and Customer Experience,” ‘Mapusetso Ntšekhe.

Ntšekhe said they chose to wear their graduations attire as motivation to young learners.

“We need you to work hard and further your studies beyond primary and secondary school so that you can also graduate and wear these type of uniforms” noted Ntšekhe.

Econet Telecom Lesotho through its social investment arm, Higherlife Foundation Lesotho (HLF), has been investing in human capital thus impacting the lives of Basotho for over 13 years to build thriving individuals, communities, and sustainable livelihoods. The Foundation’s focus has been on the following four key pillars: Education Support, Leadership and Lifelong Development, Institutions (Children’s Homes), and Additional Opportunities for HigherlifeFoundation Fellows.

“By addressing the basic needs of the students, Econet Telecom Lesotho strives to foster an environment where children can thrive academically and socially without the worry of lacking essential resources,” added Ntšekhe.

Ntšekhe further indicated that every child deserves access to quality education and the tools necessary to excel in their studies.

She remarked that through this donation: “we hope to empower students, alleviate financial burdens on families, and contribute to the holistic development of our community.”
