PM launches bicentennial celebrations

Prime Minister Sam Matekane has launched Lesotho’s 58th Independence and bicentennial celebrations.

He said the two events mark a significant milestone in the nation’s history.

Speaking at a media briefing in Maseru on Thursday, Matekane noted that the events symbolise Basotho’s collective effort in rebranding and repositioning Lesotho on the global stage.

He indicated that the country’s journey towards this momentous occasion has been guided by four pivotal objectives.

“Firstly, we celebrate the enduring role of our monarchy, a beacon of stability and unity for our nation throughout history,” he said.

Secondly, the government has embarked on legacy projects that will leave a lasting imprint on society for generations to come, honouring Basotho’s past while embracing the future.

The landmarks also come at a time when Lesotho showcases its rich cultural and creative industries, highlighting the talent and creativity that define the country’s identity. “And lastly, we emphasize programmes fostering inclusivity and unity among all Basotho, ensuring that every citizen contributes to and benefits from our collective progress,” Matekane added.
